The Great Omission: a Closer Look at the End of St. Matthew’s Gospel.
The Great Commission. It’s a hallmark of American Christianity. The way it’s normally told is “Jesus said, ‘You have to go and make disciples. If you don’t, who will? And you must use any and all means necessary to win them for me.’” But is this really what Jesus says? Might the modern American telling of the Great Commission include a Great Omission? Does our Lutheran distinction give us an even better insight into the final verses of St. Matthew’s Holy Gospel?
Speaker – Pastor Daniel Voth is Senior Pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and author of “Clarifying the Great Commission: Jesus Parting Gifts to His Church”. He has been married to his wife Crystal for nearly 29 years, raised 4 children who turned out well in-spite of their mother and father, and has 4 grandchildren he loves spending time with. His most recent hobby addiction is rock crawling remote control trucks, proving as his children have always claimed, he’s a nerd.
